[column] Commercialreview November
In this column we discuss the most striking commercials of the month of November, including the first December commercials.
We start with a warm commercial from the Oranje Fonds with the title #jijdoetertoe, designed by BRAIN creatives. The message of the commercial is “Everyone matters.” This seems so obvious, but many people do not experience this at all in their own lives. They feel isolated, for example because they lost the activities and contacts that made them feel valued and part of a group. In this commercial you see one moving story, which symbolizes many thousands of such stories. Everyone matters in their own way. This warm message certainly cannot hurt in these times. The fact that this is also appreciated by viewers is evident from the above-average credibility score of 7.3. and from the many responses, of which this one gives a good summary: “It is a nice advertisement that motivates people to do something for someone else or to ask for help themselves if necessary.”
The second commercial is from Bertolli, designed by DDB Unlimited. Bertolli has been searching for the best of Italian cuisine since 1865. Together with Dutch Italian chef Fabio, they went in search of the best ingredients and recipes in Italy, which you see in this commercial: Fabio goes into the kitchen of real Italian nonnas and enjoys the beautiful life there.
It is a strong commercial that exudes the Italian life with which Bertolli is associated, which is evident from this reaction: “The beautiful Italian life and the value of family are beautifully depicted.”
It is also interesting to see that the fact that is included in the commercial has stuck with many people after seeing the commercial, namely: “That Italians add the pasta to the sauce instead of the other way around.”
Commercial three is from Fisherman's Friends, designed by Here. This commercial introduces the new line 'Strong Stuff is Good Stuff' which positively magnifies and reinforces the meaning of mental strength by showing the mental strength of people who have a strong, calm mind and a strong sense of self-esteem. They see no obstacles but opportunities and accept life as it comes. These are values that fit the Fisherman's Friends brand because it always tries to stay true to itself, for example in the packaging. The commercial has a powerful appearance with, of course, a “fisherman” in the leading role.
Then we come to the first December commercials of this year, the first of which is from BAUHAUS, designed by Everybody Likes Penguins. The title of this commercial is “make your Christmas your own” and aims to convey that every person is unique and that at BAUHAUS you will have all the space you need this year to make Christmas completely your own.
In the commercial we see a 'yellow lady' entering BAUHAUS. She looks around in amazement, walks enthusiastically towards the Christmas trees, smells a tree and then sprays the statue full of yellow paint with a paint sprayer. In the final shot we see her standing proudly next to her yellow Christmas tree, in her house painted completely yellow. The commercial certainly stands out, as is evident from the following response: “I think it is a well-conceived and unique Christmas commercial, really distinctive from the more standard Christmas commercials”
The next December commercial is from CEWE, designed by Stick in collaboration with Ministry of Frames. The commercial tells the story of a regular CEWE customer. Every customer of course has a different story, this year Danielle Regout is giving a photo book as a gift to her mother because she treated the whole family to a holiday together in France last summer. Danielle turned it into a beautiful photo book and gave it to her mother as a thank you for the fun time together.
The commercial succeeds well in showing the emotions that are often associated with photo albums and the associated memories.
The last December commercial is from Etos, designed by TBWANEBOKO. This animated commercial is in line with last year's, although the focus is no longer on keeping a distance, but on looking out for each other.
Especially during this time, it is important that people are there for each other. With this sweet story, Etos hopes to inspire people by showing what a small gesture can do, such as a grandchild giving a bath bomb to grandpa, who enjoys it very much. This warmth is greatly appreciated by the viewers, well summarized in this response: “What a sweet “magical” commercial. Fits nicely for this time of year.”
