[column] Commercialreview October

We once again discuss the most striking commercials on our platform from the past month. Fortunately, it was a month with a lot of creativity and striking commercials.

The first striking commercial of this month is from TOTO, part of the Dutch Lottery and designed by TBWANEBOKO. From October 1, a number of online casino providers are allowed in the Netherlands, of which TOTO is one of them. This concept for TOTO is introduced with a naturally striking commercial whose message reads: “Try your luck in the new Online Casino. Play live Roulette, Blackjack or one of the other games. Bet and win!” In addition to TOTO, we also saw BetCity and Holland Casino announcing the online casinos through TV advertisements, which certainly shows the importance of advertising on TV.

The TOTO commercial was well received by our viewers, because of its cheerfulness and strikingness, which is evident from this reaction: “Looks nice, well-known Dutch people, a bit strange.” That “weird” fits TOTO, but according to some viewers, it could have been less to make the message even clearer.

The second commercial is from PlusDental, designed by TryNoAgency. This brand, probably relatively unknown to many, introduces the Dutch market to “a new smile, without fixed braces” through this commercial! because at PlusDental you do not have to spend hours in the dental chair for a dental correction thanks to their invisible braces. The commercial wants to convey that getting your dream teeth takes so much less effort than you might think. It is a clear and simple advertisement with a clear message. We also see this in the responses, which seem to have aroused the interest of many people, which is clearly evident from this response: “Attractive advertising, everything is clearly explained and I immediately understand why I could take this product.”

Then we go to the Johma commercial, designed by Alfred International, which focuses on the spicy tuna salad. In Losser, where Johma is based, they have been making salads for more than 50 years and are always coming up with new variants. This commercial introduces the new spicy tuna flavor, with the well-known mayor and this time his "spicy" sister in the leading role. “A classic with extra spice.” Johma's commercials are always recognizable due to their very clear style and characters. This is very much appreciated by our panel, which is well summarized in this response: “Nice, striking, clearly in Johma style. Very recognizable and striking.”

Dirk's commercial, designed by Total Design, certainly attracts attention again.

In this commercial you see housemates Suus and Sam. They study together, cook together... and clean together. They also use the same brands, but Suus does not buy them from Dirk and Sam. This means Suus can go to a festival and it becomes a parents' weekend for Sam. Dirk wants to convey very clearly that all A-brands have the same taste, quality and smell, and that they look the same. “Wherever you get your A-brands, they are the same everywhere. Except in price with Dirk.”

The nice thing is that this is the second commercial with this message and with similar characters. In the previous commercial we saw Ed and Ad with similar scenes and now the target group of students is addressed more. This commercial is very popular with viewers and of course makes a nod to the “blue supermarket”.

We also cannot ignore the attractive Bolsius commercial designed by KesselsKramer. Almost everyone will know Bolsius from its candles and with this commercial Bolsius wants to make it clear that a candle guarantees much more than just a candle. It is a spark, a seducer, a mission. Just that little bit of extra atmosphere!” An atmosphere of conviviality and emotion is created around the brand in this commercial, which seems to resonate well with almost all viewers, which creates positive associations with the brand. This response, for example, makes that very clear: “A very nice commercial. Well illustrated what you can do with a candle. Beautiful music and good voice-over.”

We close the month of October with the commercial El Dorado by 999 Games, in collaboration with Lukkien. 999 Games is known for board games such as Catan, 30 seconds and Carcassonne and hopes to make the general public enthusiastic about the El Dorado board game with this commercial. In the commercial we see exciting images in a jungle, where the characters are looking for the golden city. The images and music make this an attractive commercial that piques the interest of many of the viewers to learn more about the game. The commercial does not make it completely clear what exactly the game entails and who it is for, but this seems to be a trigger to look for more information about this game.
